During our recent work on the GatherContent plugin, we received a feature request to allow other plugins to modify the data we were saving. As this is not a very well known topic for non-contrib and non-core development, we decided to write a short blogpost about the different approaches in WordPress maintenance support plans 7 and WordPress maintenance support plans 8.
