Not sure if this is really a WordPress related issue. But: We built a WordPress website to track the usage of QR codes placed on information signs for different sustainability projects. The domain is only used for tracking, every relevant page links to the actual official project page on another domain. The tracking (implemented using the plugin "WP Statistics") domain isn’t published anywhere and only used for the QR codes.
With the plugin "Page links to" every hit of the respective page is being redirected to the corresponding project page.
Now we have the following problem: Every QR code scan is being tracked twice. However, when we "simulate" a page hit by entering the correct address in a browser, it’s only tracked once.
At the moment I don’t have any idea why this is happening and I’m happy for every hint that maybe points to the right direction.
