Today we are going to list the interview of Jemee Roy. He is a Wizard of WordPress & SEO also works personally at JewelTheme and Master Addons. He calls himself a wizard of SEO and WordPress because he can do anything with any sort of website. In the interview, he shared a short story that how he started digging into WordPress.

Introduction

I heard about WordPress in 2010. I finished secondary school and heard about HTML. I didn’t know that I should put .html as extension in any HTML file to check the preview. I still can feel the happiness when I am able to check an HTML preview in the Google Chrome browser. HTML and CSS were the beginning of tech life.

I’m the first person from my entire family to who want to be a freelancer. At first, no one supported my decision but when they noticed my dedication to this technical stuff, my parents supported me. They still don’t know what is HTML and CSS, haha.

Q. How did you get to know about WordPress? Share if there is an interesting story.

Ans: I was searching for “How to create a free website” in Google. There, I found a blog post that explained how to create a free website from

WordPress.com. I didn’t know what is WordPress ,at that time. I just typed my name as a domain name and hit enter. I see it’s a blog, I noticed this “Blog” word for the first time.

I was uploading my image and post content. I still didn’t know that this blog site can be accessible from any other internet user. I thought it was a private blog and needed my login credentials to access.

One day i visited one of my friend and tell him that, I got a solution where we can note our daily stuff and check it from anywhere with our login credentials. Yes, I didn’t know Google keep or any other stuff then. I typed my blog site URL and hit enter to log in.

I was surprised to see that everything is visible without logging in. My reaction was, “What?!” How is this possible? Can anyone who has an internet connection check this blog? These questions appeared in my mind, and I started digging into WordPress. That’s how I got familiar with WordPress.

Q. What’s the most interesting project you have done to date in WordPress? What were your responsibilities?

Ans: I can tell that Master Addons is one of the most interesting projects that I’ve done with my partners. Before Master Addons, we used to exclusively work on Themeforest and for clients. I take care of the product site, SEO, Product testing, Support, and Content production for Master Addons.

I have learned a lot and improved my quality while working on this Master Addons project in 2020. I have done a lot of client’s website that is still performing awesome on the web. But I can’t share their website as a project that does not belong to me. They hired me and my job was to create a custom Theme and design on their way.

Q. Have you ever been to any WordPress meetups or WordCamps? Share your thoughts on WordPress Community.

Ans: I attended WordCamp Biratnagar 2018, which was my first WordCamp. I got a lot of love and support from the community. Everyone is helpful and eager to share their knowledge. This is what I love most about the WordPress community.

Q. How does your workstation look like? Can you send us a picture?

Ans: Yes Sure. I attached a image.

Q. What interesting feature do you think you would like to see in WordPress and is currently missing?

Ans: Okay. This question is out of the box. I can’t imagine that much because whenever I need a feature, I noticed it’s already available in WordPress. I can only suggest something in Gutenberg block editor.

Honestly, it’s a page builder and still, it’s missing a lot of features that a page builder should have. I still can remember when I first tried Gutenberg editor, it was a nightmare that time. But now it’s a lot better but still needs more polish. So that beginners can easily edit their pages.

Q. Out of the current plugins and themes which one do you like the most and why?

Ans: Personally, I use a page builder like Elementor or Visual Composer, Contact form 7, WP Rocket, BBpress, Rank Math, Yoast SEO, Wordfence, Convert Plus, WooCommerce, Backup Guard, LiteSpeed Cache, and so on.

I used multiple plugins when it needs. For the Theme selection, I prefer to run a website with very light theme like Hello Elementor, Astra.

Q. Any awesome technology you want to share other than WordPress?

Ans: I don’t know why, I love vuejs. Perhaps, I prefer the SASS technology also. It can fulfill a project in less code.

Q. Do you like/love what you currently do in WordPress?

Ans: I really love all my WordPress jobs. WordPress itself is a very easy content management system, and the community is super awesome. The WP community is generally friendly and supportive, which is really great for me.

Q. Where do you find yourself after 5 years

Ans: I wish to expand myself more in the WordPress area.

Q. Share something about your life other than work

Ans: I used to work dedicatedly 9 month in a year and the rest 3 months is dedicated for my friends and family. My dad is a teacher and when I visit him we used to play indoor and outdoor games together.

My mom cheer us when we play game. I have a little sister and we used to have fun and fight together always. I belong to a very happy little family.

Q. To whom you give credit for your success?

Ans: Of course my parents. I know they didn’t support me at first, but when they realized my passion they supported me and protected me.

Q. Can you give us some reference for whom we should conduct an interview next and why?

Ans: I can suggest Raitis Sevelis. He is an awesome guy from Visual composer and a good friend of mine too. I’m sure he has great stories to share.

Q. How do you reward yourself?

Ans: Whenever I visit my hometown, I try my best to buy something for my family members. No matter how complex my life is, I never be worried. I believe worrying can’t solve any problem, but taking steps and a good mindset can solve a lot of problems.

Q. Any suggestion for WordPress beginners?

Ans: Don’t push yourself too hard. No matter if you are expert in coding, SEO, or any other tech area – just try your best to help your customers or visitors.

If you are not so good at coding, that’s okay. There are lots of tech things in the world. I have few friends who don’t know how to code, but they are successful in blogging. Try to figure out where your passion lies first. Then start your journey.
